After reading about Fairy Tail from Malzias' blog, I couldn't help but go and pick up this manga. Since I started, I have been quite unwilling to stop reading ^^;
This manga is a work of Mashima Hiro (who was also the one behind Rave). Here's a summary of chapter 1.
This manga, although it may sound like a serious work, is really very humorous. I found myself laughing aloud on several occasions. The storyline (as far as I have read) is good, and (as I said earlier,) keeps me longing for more.
Lucy, a stellar spirit mage (think of it as something like a summoner), is looking to join Fairy Tail, an infamous magicians' guild. While in town, she encounters who she (and everyone else) believes to be Salamander, a highly acclaimed fire mage, and falls in love with him.
Natsu, who appears out of nowhere, claims that this guy is not the real Salamander, and this sets Lucy free from "Salamander's" charm magic (which made her "love" him).
Thankful Lucy treats Natsu to lunch, and tells him of her desire to join Fairy Tail. She soon leaves him and continues her search for the guild. "Salamander" also learns of Lucy's wish, and invites her to join him in the said guild. More than delighted, she quickly accepts his invitation and boards his ship.
However, she quickly discovers that this Salamander is not who he makes himself to be, but is instead, the evil leader of a fake Fairy Tail, who plans to sell her and other girls off as slaves! Natsu comes to the rescue, and after some havoc, he reveals that he is Salamander, and that he is a true guild member of Fairy Tail. He quickly defeats all the Fairy Tail posers, but causes a great deal of destruction. For this, he gets in trouble with the military. While fleeing, he drags Lucy along, and asks her to join Fairy Tail. She agrees, and the two begin their adventure.
Truthfully, the artwork turned me off at first, but I'm glad I still chose to read this. I still have lots of chapters to catch up on though. (I'm at chapter 11 / 101 [on-going]). ^^;
