Rear Seatbelt Rule

A little late on this post.

A few days ago, on the first of June, the warning period of the "Rear Seatbelt Rule" of Malaysia began.

Research done by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) found that wearing safety belts reduced casualties and deaths among back-seat passengers.

Because of this, back-seat passengers will now have to wear their seatbelts or be fined RM80.


As I said earlier, it is now only in the warning period, and this law will take effect six months from now (January).

Based on what I have seen when I peep into other people's cars my observations, most back-seat passengers have yet to strap on their seatbelts. This means Malaysians either don't care about the rule, or are unaware of it.

What do you think about this law? I think it's a good law, although a bit bothersome.
