Hello all, I know it's been quite a long time since my last update; I've been very busy with school. I've been doing English 1A, History 17, PHP programming, and an Internet class. This post is actually, in part, for the internet class, as part of what the instructor wants the class to do. My semester will be ending relatively soon, so I will most definitely take advantage of that and post quite a bit more.



Anyway, this post, along with another few posts will cover J-Music (J-Music stands for "Japanese-Music" for those of you who might not know). They will also, all have youtube video links. It will be a little bit each day since I don't have the time to sit down and compile large posts just yet. I hope these posts can expose J-Music to Western culture a bit more, maybe help break down some of the ideas that people hold about Japan, for instance, the idea that Japan is entirely traditional and doesn't have modern music and styles. I've heard that one out of many people before. ^^;





First, I'll start off with some J-Rock. There are many artists that are known quite well in America already, but there are many more which have almost no fan basis in America. I'll include a bit of both.



Another moderately slow song from Gackt, who, while being classified as mainly J-Rock, kind of isn't. He has rockish sounding songs, but many of his songs are actually slower. Another interesting thing to note, J-Rock could be metal, screamo, slower rock, just about anything that falls under rock, and is by a Japanese band. As such, some harder rock will be coming after Gackt. ^^

By the way, I've been trying to take some good figure photos for reviews, but I just can't seem to get good ones with a point and shoot camera, so I'll hopefully be getting a DSLR soon. *Crosses fingers for Christmas* xD



This is the last one I'll post from Gackt, and is also a faster song, more of what you might expect to hear when you think of "J-Rock". For those who may be interested, there are many sources of information about Japanese artists on the internet (along with artists of every other nationality), so I will post a link to some wikipedia information for each of them.

Now for some harder rock. It might be a good idea for me to tell you all a bit about "Visual Kei" (lit. Visual Style in english.) Some people like this style, other hate it, but quite a lot of the harder J-Rock comes from bands that are Visual Kei (which can also be shortened to "Visu", something that I will be doing from now on.) One of the things that many people hate about Visu is the fact that many of the members in different bands look at least slightly androgynous. If people don't like this then that's fine, but there is no reason to judge how good a band is based upon their looks, even though Visu is based upon looks. xD



Here is a couple of videos from what is probably one of the most well known Visu bands, especially in America, Dir en Grey. They have had many different looks and styles of music over the years, but that helps to make them quite a versatile band.



Let me warn you now, Dir en grey does have screamo sounding songs, and some of the videos I link may not be entirely appropriate for younger audiences. :p

I am only going to post one up for two reasons, one, it's their best song, and two, it's the only song of theirs that immediately comes to mind as one of my favorites. Since I'm now running a bit short on time, this will be the last band for this post, more to come later. UVERworld, a band that might be known in America due to the use of one fo their songs in the anime "Bleach". That song is this next one.

Hatsune Miku in Nokia Advertisement

Was just watching Astro at a relative's place last Sunday, when I saw this Nokia advert.



So, what's so special about this advert?

Well, the concept of the advert is certainly interesting, but that's not I want to point out. When you were watching the advert, did you listen carefully to the first song? If you did, you might have recognized the voice...

Can you guess who it is?

Well, it's none other than Hatsune Miku! ^^

The advert is Chinese (though I first saw the English ver), but it's a Japanese song. The song is specially made for the advert, so, unfortunately, it might be hard (or impossible) to find an mp3 of it.

The phone being advertised is the Nokia 5310.

When I first saw the ad on TV, I was all, "Wait.. ZOMG IS THAT MIKU I HEAR?!" ^^;

BTW- if you liked the ad, there's also another one like it, but without any Miku-goodness in it. Check that other ad out here.

EDIT: Okay. I shall be honest about this- I have no solid proof that it's Miku, but a lot of people agree that it's her. But, whether you believe it's Miku or not, it's up to you to decide. ^^

Veoh Blocks Malaysia

Video streaming site, Veoh.com, has blocked Malaysia just today.

The truth is, I already foresaw this. A few days ago, was browsing Veoh, when suddenly that same message popped up. A quick refresh, then the site said it was going under maintenance. Another quick refresh, and I was back at Veoh. I thought it might've been a glitch, but was highly doubtful of that.


Today, my doubts proved true, and no number of refreshes could remove that dreadful message from my screen.

This means we Malaysian otaku have one less source of streaming anime, but that's okay. After all, we have other sources.

BTW- I dunno if it's true for the latest client of VeohTV or not, but my version of VeohTV Beta can still search for and download anime from Veoh.com (LOL).

Human Games

Remember once when I posted about human art? Recently took a glance at the 2007 YouTube video awards, and saw the first place winner for the "Creative" catagory- Human tetris.



I must say, it's impressive- both the final product and the work they go through.

Pole position.



I remember playing all of those games before (of course, not with people), but didn't know the names of some of them (like pole position and pong). They're retro (old) games, but are timeless- that is, they can still be fun anytime. I'd say tetris is the most popular among those games though- never really liked tetris, but love pole position.

Anyone else here who used to/still enjoy these old-school games?

BTW- Human tetris might have won the first place title for creative, but I surely know this is the true winner. (lol)

Dead Fantasy

Was on comrade Zyg`'s site, and read a post about Dead Fantasy.

Had never heard of Dead Fantasy prior to reading that post, and was a little skeptical as to whether it was as great as Zyg` seemed to make it to be.

Nevertheless, I watched the said Dead Fantasy, and I have to say, to call it anything short of beyond legendary would be lying ^^;

This is exactly the kind of action that's missing in anime today.

I've no idea how it functions, but seems to be working quite coolly.

Taking off Clothes Quickly

So, I've asked you how fast you can fold up your clothes, now I'm going to ask you, "how fast can you take off your clothes?"

This guy can do it in two seconds.



Have tried some crazy methods to take of certain clothes before (like wearing two shirts and taking off the inner layer without taking off the outer layer), but have never tried this before.

Anyone can do it? ^^;


BTW- My #1 fan and dear irreplaceable sister, Phoebe, says hi. ^^

Folding T-Shirts Quickly

How fast can you fold your clothes?

This lady teaches us how to fold a t-shirt in about... 2 seconds.



Had found this method highly useful (very quick, and very easy) back when I first watched it, but I kept forgetting how to do it, and 'twas quite annoying to keep going back to watch the video.

Did you already know this method? If you do, are you using it?

High Resolution YouTube

Comrade Danny Choo reports that adding the parameter "&fmt=18" to the end of a Youtube video url will allow you to watch Youtube videos in high resolution. The higher resolution, however, also means that you're gonna need more time to stream the video.
(If you didn't understand that, it just means to "add &fmt=18 to the end of the Youtube video link)

Of course, with such great news, who would want to try it? I did.

Unfortunately, after trying it out with multiple videos (videos where the "&fmt=18" parameter was reported to be working), There is not much of a difference. If any difference, it is very minimalistic, like in the following picture:


Take a look at Lockon's (guy on the left) left arm (HIS left arm, the arm on the right from your view). Compare the top and bottom pictures and you'll notice an extremely slight difference. (You will need to full view to see it)

Also reported (this by other comrades) was that the sound had improved with the "&fmt=18" tag. Once again, no difference.
